Event Description:

Join thousands around the country for a call to action to our local and national governments to "step up" and address Global Warming. Bring your family, friends, strollers, bicycles, neighbors, and pets for a walk downtown to support action against climate change; this is our community's statement, help us make it a strong one. We will start our walk at Duke University's East campus (corner of Markham Ave. and Broad St.) at 11 am, and walk downtown for a group photo in front of City Hall at noon (1.6 mi to City Hall, 1.6 mi back). Durham is having the Durham Art Walk and the Full Frame Documentary festival downtown, as well as Duke's annual undergraduate reunion weekend, so this is a great opportunity for exposure to this cause. Come join your community and unite for climate action. Anyone who does not want to walk is invited to join us at City Hall (101 City Hall Plaza, off Mangum St.) at noon. Our photos will join photos from over a thousand other events occuring the same day, across all 50 states, and will be used as a statement to federal government that people care about this issue. Come join us, bring your friends and family, and checkout the great progress Durham is making downtown.

Location:
We will start the walk at Duke East Campus (corner of Broad St. and Markham Ave.), across and down from Whole Foods. The walk will follow Main St. through downtown. We'll turn left on Mangum and end at City Hall where we'll take photos at noon.

Directions:
For Duke East Campus: Take Swift Street exit from Durham Freeway (Hwy 147). Right on Broad, Campus is on your right across and down from Whole Foods. For City Hall: From 147, take exit 12B toward US-15-BR/Downtown, merge onto Jackie Robinson Dr/Willard St 305 ft, turn right at S Roxboro St 0.4 mi, slight left at Morgan St, turn left at N Mangum St, You'll see the City Hall sign on your left. There are several parking decks in the area, here's one: Exit at Roxboro/Mangum Street (Exit #12B) Right onto Roxboro Street, following signs for Downtown Durham Travel under the Rail Road bridge. Left onto East Main Street (1st traffic light after RR bridge). Left at Corcoran Street (2nd traffic light). Corcoran Street Parking Deck entrance is in middle of block on the right. To get to City Hall from Corcoran Deck: walk back to main, go right (east), left on Mangum, City Hall sign on your right.
