Sewing re usable bags and taking a group photo
Cummington, MA
April 14, 2007 10:00AM to 03:00PM
Event Description:12 million barrels of oil are used to make the 100 billion plastic bags Americans use in one year. The environmental cost of using both paper and plastic bags can easily be measured in terms of trees cut and the fossil fuels used to do so. The simple act of remembering to bring a cloth bag to shop can have big consequences.
Our sustainability group has already sewn and donated over 200 cloth bags made from donated cloth and old clothes to a bag pool at The Old Creamery, our wonderful local store in Cummington. Each bag has a tag sewn on it that says to use and return it back to the pool and a place where the person who has sewn or donated it signs their name.
Come and sew and learn to sew with us! All ages and abilities welcome. Donate fabric, strapping or help cut out fabric or tags. Share your favorite bag pattern or lend us a reliable sewing machine for a few hours. It's fun and rewarding. We are down to just a few bags in our pool at The Creamery and need to build it back up! If you can't make it this circle there is another on April 21st. We plan to spread this to other stores and towns.
If you have a machine, bring it. If not there will be extras there!
