April 14, 2007 12:00PM to 02:00PM
Event Description:We will gather around the bandstand at Hastings Park at noon to hear lively music and rousing speakers. It is Patriot's Day weekend in Lexington. We will don our tricorne hats and carry flags while we declare ourselves Patriots for Global Warming Action. "Let the Energy Revolution Begin Here" is the theme of the day. Speakers include: Congressman Ed Markey, Chair, Congressional Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, Sen. Robert Havern,Sen Susan Fargo, Rep. Jim Marzilli, Rep. Will Brownsberger,Barbara Hill of Clean Power Now, Mrs. Peggy McKibben, and Marc Breslow of the Mass. Climate Action Network. We have a special guest from the North Pole to remind us of how fast the Arctic is warming.
Everyone from the Greater Boston area is invited to join us - bring your friends, relatives, neighbors. Walk or ride a bike, or drive an energy efficient vehicle and join us for a memorable rally. Hastings Park is at the corner of Massachusetts Ave and Worthen Road in Lexington, a five minute walk from the Lexington Green, across the street from the Hayden Center.
The Rally will conclude with a march down Massachusetts Avenue to the historic Lexington Green, where we will pause at the Minuteman Statue for photos.
Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers will perform during the Rally. The band consists of two LHS grads - Stash Wyslouch and Andy Reiner, plus two of their fellow Berklee College of Music students, Bronwyn Bird, and Mariel Vandersteel. The band is a Swedish and Old Time Appalachian folk group that merges contemporary musical
elements and grooves with traditional folk music to
form an exciting and refreshing sound. They have many fans in the Lexington area and their amazing sounds assure us of a lively rally.
Also, we will have a petition to our elected representatives that people can sign, urging them to reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2050.
