The Citizens' Regional Transit Corporation (CRTC), Buffalo Urban League, and the NFTA (Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority), got together to help emphasize that Buffalo is going Green! And one of the best ways that Buffalo is Stepping it Up (and in fact has been for over 20 years) is by its hydroelectrically powered Metro Rail.

And the best course of action to continue to reduce emissions and improve the environment is to expand this emission-free transportation system. Environmental health is just one of the benefits of an expanded Metro Rail!

New York State Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples addressed our Step it Up! group with a rousing call to action for protecting the environment. And one of the best ways to do this in Buffalo is to expand the zero-emission, hydropowered Metro Rail!

Supporters of Step it Up gathered at the Church Street station of Metro
Rail, with representatives from the League of Women Voters and the
Citizens Regional Transit Corporation (CRTC). The rally began at 11:00
AM, supported with enthusiasm by the young people from the Urban
League, who had been studying global warming during their spring break.
The young people displayed their posters. The CRTC unfurled a large
banner, with the slogans: Cut Carbon Emissions 80% by 2050! Go Green!
Ride Metro Rail!

Senator Charles Schumer sent a representative from his office. We
collected twenty names of attendees.

Gladys Gifford, President of CRTC, roused the crowd, to appreciate
Metro Rail as our best "green" transportation in WNY, with chants of
"Go Green!." At about 11:15, State Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples
arrived and delivered an inspirational speech about the benefits of an
expanded Metro Rail as our best effort to care for creation.

Gifford was interviewed on-camera by Channel 2.

The rally concluded at 11:30, when leaders dashed over to Hoyt Lake in
Delaware Park, where we unfurled the banner to an appreciative
audience while State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt extolled our efforts to
expand Metro Rail as an effective action to help curb global warming.

A banner day, for sure!

Gladys Gifford, CRTC President
