What a day! It was pouring rain an hour beforehand but we were determined to make it happen no matter what. Just 15 minutes before the 1 pm start the sky cleared and the sun came out - I knew I had an "in" with the rain man! It turned out we had wrapped the signs in plastic unnecessarily! We all gathered at a park downtown. An 8' stuffed polar bear was our icon - he had a sad look on his face and wielded the sign, "This past winter was the hottest ever recorded." Once we had about 30 people in attendance we began walking up and down 4th Street carrying our banner and signs and passing out handouts. We got lots of honks and yells of support (especially from Prius drivers). We made four rounds and walked for about 1.5 hours. The following day the regional newspaper - the Press Democrat - published a story that covered our event.
