Under blue skies and unseasonably warm weather for our mile high city of Prescott we walked from Ken Lindley Field along Prescott's main avenue, through the residential district and up to the overlook of the city in Acker Park. From this view of the city and surrounding Prescott National Forest with Thumb Butte in the background we discussed the effects global warming is currently having on our home (drought, beetle kill of the ponderosa pines, wildfire, and a decreasing groundwater supply) and the rest of the world. We then focused on solutions that individuals, businesses and the government can impliment to lessen our CO2 footprint. The Yavapai Group of the Sierra Club's petition requesting that Prescott Mayor Simmons join the other 453 US Mayors in signing the US Mayors Climate Change Protection Agreement was made available beginning with this event, through Earth Day, after which it will be presented during a city council meeting. At the conclusion of the rally each participant was presented with a compact fluorescent lightbulb courtesy of the Yavapai Group.
