The first part of the event was not officially a StepItUp2007 event, but a city/neighborhood sponsored event with which we coordinated.
Therefore, we begin by planting 50+ young palm trees which will eventually replace the 80-year-old royal palms that are dying from old age. At a break were two speakers: one from TreePeople, who included information about all the good things trees do for cities, and a second who is a palm tree expert.

After all the trees were planted, people re-assembled for the "official" StepItUp2007 event which was a presentation from a local officer of the LA Sierra Club. I introduced her by talking about what StepItUp was doing today and its goals; the speaker primarily focused on global warming, its impact and what we can each do about making a difference in meeting the challenges it presents. She handed out a list of such things we can do.
