Over 100 people walked, rode bikes, or pushed strollers from Duke East Campus to City Hall to take a group photo in support of action against climate change. The mix of students, families, and seniors showed that this is truly an issue that unites us all. Thanks to everyone who participated. We're planning a much bigger event next year, so anyone who wants to help, please contact Greg Bell or Jenny Zervakis. Also, for Durham residents who want to get involved in actions locally, I encourage you to check out Clean Energy Durham, the Durham Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and Local Action Plan, and the Durham Sierra Club. Thanks again, Greg Bell.

I want to thank all who came out for the Step it Up walk in Durham. Over a 100 people walked, strollered, biked, and even one wheelchaired from Duke East campus to the steps of City Hall. Participants primarily consisted of families, students, retirees from nearby neigborhoods associations, and individuals representing local chapters of environmental groups. The great thing was hearing about all the things being done locally to reduce our energy and resource consumption. I found out that there is a Durham clean energy group that helps people weatherize their house and save on energy bills, and that Durham is one of 150 cities that is participating in ICLEI Cities for Climate Protection campaign. Keep up the good work! (photo forthcoming)

A gathering of old friends got together and took this photo which we'll be sending to our elected reps to ask them to get cracking on climate change. My 5 year old daughter Katja made the "go faster" poster.
With coming and going we didn't get everyone in the photo, but there were about 50 folks in attendance.
