There were about 250 people with interest and enthusiasm that attended. It was all done in conjunction with a group of high school students sharing their envirothon projects with the public. The effort received local media coverage and a visit from Senator Brewer and Representative Anne Gobi.

EQUAL, East Quabbin Alliance and Quabbin Regional High School Envirothon hosted a StepitUP2007 ENERGY EXPO. The movie "An Inconvenient Truth" was shown continuously and colorful displays explained carbon footprint and some of the various ways our choices impact the environment. Energy Star Builder Rick Arnold gave a workshop on smart building and energy solutions. Brayton Shanley demonstrated his car run on vegetable oil. There was a tire pressure station and free tire gauges. Cloth and reusable shopping bags were given away as well as energy efficient shower heads and blue spruce seedlings.
State Senator Steven Brewer and Representative Anne Gobi (on her way to the Athol River Rat race!) visited the exhibits and shared their enthusiasm.
Julie Rawson of New England Organic Farmer Association (NOFA)had lots of information about sustainable farming. Pellet stoves, a carbon neutral method of heating, were displayed by Higgin's Energy Alternatives. Insulating windows shades were demonstrated by “Warm and Toasty Windows.”
There was a steady flow of interested and curious people throughout the event.

The Quabbin Regional High School Envirothon team partnered with EQUAL (East Quabbin Alliance) to put on an Energy Expo to Step it Up in Barre Massachusetts. The High School Environmental team wanted to make to educational displays about energy conservation to educate the public on ways to reduce their personal carbon footprint. The students made some very colorful and informative displays on Changing lightbulbs and switching to CFL bulbs, reducing Hot water use, Using energy efficient appliances in the home, using re-usable cloth bags instead of plastic, and planting trees in the backyard. They made a colorful brochure on simple tips that people could do easily to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions.
