Stepping It Up in Stowe, Vermont
What a month ago conceptually started as a search for snow, today ended up being a consummate winter ski tour with not a bare patch in sight. Eighty Nordic skiers Stepped It Up on skis to the Slayton Pasture Cabin of Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT. Part of the group started at the Stowe Mountain Resort Touring Center on classic skis and broke trail through at least a foot of ungroomed snow from the last storm. The rest of the group opted for the beautifully groomed trails of the Trapp Family Lodge. Everyone met at the cabin at noon for the Step It Up photo.
The group included skiers of all ages ranging from 7 years to 70-something, and representing Craftsbury Nordic Ski Club and Stowe Nordic Outing Club, as well as contingents from Hanover, NH's Ford Sayre Ski Club, Montpelier, Rutland, Shelburne and Burlington. The group included both past and future Olympians and skiers from the UVM and Middlebury College teams.
The conditions were unusual for mid-April, with warm weather not so much the issue as climate change. The forecast calls for another storm tomorrow with another foot of snow.

The group listens to some brief announcements from the organizers.
An attentive and concerned group of nordic skiers.
The group ranged in age fro 7 to 70+. Here, our youngest, stands next to a representative of the snowpeople, who are also very concerned about global warming.
