Beach regulars started gathering at around 2:30pm and did what has been done at Muscle Beach since the 1930's - gymnastics, stunts and circus tricks.
We hung the banner facing the busy Ocean Front Walk, covered the lightposts with NRDC and Step It Up posters, hung blue and green balloons, and gave away free t-shirts promoting a UCLA art exhibit on climate change. We also gave out flyers provided by beach-athlete Paul Scott (of www.pluginamerica and "Who Killed The Electric Car") that explained the benefits of switching to an electric vehicle.
Although it was a chilly clowdy day, we did demonstrations, taught some new people how to swing on the rings, and generally attracted a good crowd. One family asked where they could donate money! We directed them to green websites where you can "buy back" your carbon footprint.
A success! I am confident that we did a lot to raise public awareness today...
