Great stuff! We watched "Who Killed the Electric Car" on Friday night the 13th. Today, we started with bicycle decorating. We had a bicycle parade and an educational fair with a speak-out, including the Mayor who proclaimed today Step It Up Oneonta Day and called for stepping it up again next year. The fair included many local activist and educational organizations (Otsego County Conservation Association, Adirondack Mountain Club, Cornell Cooperative Extension, several more), the WildLearn center (compete with a vulture and owl), local organic food producers and sellers, and great music. A public forum in the afternoon got serious with local experts talking about the effects and economics of global warming, and peak oil. The evening wrapped up with a movie, "Just Around the Corner" by local Emmy award-winning filmmaker John Miglietta. The movie features local teens and was shown at the Teen Center, followed by five great bands. Phew! Thanks to many organizers, the events went amazingly smoothly. But especially: Ed Lentz, Colleen Blacklock, Karl Seeley, Jennie Williams, Cynthia Marsh and Ian Austin. There were SO many supporters, we can't begin to name them all. Thanks, everyone!

Local shops such as Stone and Thistle Farm and Annie's Bread and Butter had tasting of their local food. Other tables were part of an educational fair as well. A decorated bike parade went down Main St in the afternoon, followed by talks from the Mayor and other community members. Banners designed by the community and students were hung in local shops downtown. Music and a rally, and an education panel were downtown also.

Windows on Main Street was kicked off today during Step It Up Oneonta activities. As part of this project, downtown Oneonta storefronts are filled with art created by Oneonta artists and school kids. Project leader Cynthia Marsh and Teen Center director Ian Austin spent countless hours working on two murals that are diplayed in one of Oneonta's large empty storefronts.
