Community members gathered at the city/ county building to rally in support of the reduction of carbon by 80% by 2050. Mayor Rocky Anderson spoke, other community members read ways in which individuals can reduce their own carbon emissions, hybrid cars were on display, local environmet action groups had booths. I also encourage congress to "Step It Up!" and take action to cut carbon 80% by 2050!

It was a nice day. Mayor Rocky Anderson gave several great speaches regarding global warming. I have included one of them and chose not to edit it down. Everything he said needs to be heard. All of the entertainement was good and Los Lobos ended the day with a great concert. Step It Up

Over 5,000 people congregated at the City and County building in downtown Salt Lake City to demand that Congress Step It Up! It was a fun festival-style event with live music, food, booths, vendors, and loads of information about climate change and reducing our carbon footprint. Computers were set up where 824 people sent a total of 13,000 e-mails demanding the President, our U.S. Senators and Representatives, Governor Huntsman, and our state legislature to reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2050. Additionally, over 400 hard copy letters were sent to elected officials. Local non-profits, schools, and businesses set up booths, handed out information and answered questions about everything from bike tune-ups to purchasing renewable energy and green building. Electric cars, biodiesel school buses, solar-powered vehicles were also on display for people to learn about.
