We had a rally at the Sonic Plaza (a sound and art installation) on the campus of East Carolina University. It was in view of the university's webcam and right out side of the Joyner Library on the front steps. We signed up about 150 people touring the library and campus during teh Pirate Fest University Open House. About 20 dedicated people (Kevin Miller, Greg Meyer, Emma Hardison, Natalie, Marianne, Glen, David Griffith, Nancy Griffith, Chrsitine Avenarius and Bryn Jonhson, and a bunch more) from the ECU Chapter of the Coastal Society helped canvas the crowd touring the campus, explaing the goall of setpitup.org, why and how we can reduce CO2, and the effects of climate change on the coasts. We will post a short video on YouTune that shows the team chanting "Step it up, Congress! Reduce CO2 by 80%" while on the steps of the Sonic Plaza. We were definitely noticed by the crowd of 100 or so people, some of whom came up on teh steps with us to hold up the signs spelling out the same catch phrase (see below).

The event was a great success, given that it was planned only one week prior. People rode their bikes and passed out fliers to the "Open House" crowd visiting the university for Pirate Fest. Later, members went to the downtown Pirate Fest/Uptown Greenville Art Festival and International Festival that were also going on. We signed up more people there. The YouTube video below allows one to feel the vibes of that day. Climate change speakers have been visiting campus all semester and another scientist will visit campus on the 19th of April. Please attend the lecture, entitled: "Climate Change is Unequivocal"
