At 4:30 pm, about 100 people gathered in historic Griffith Park- the largest municipal park and urban wilderness in the united states- and hiked from the parking lot to the summit of Dante's Peak, some 1500 ft above. Ranging in ages from 2 to 75, with downtown Los Angeles in the background, they stood a little winded but victorious, proud to be a part of STEP IT UP '07. It was a beautiful day and a really fantastic event.

Griffith Park Hike to Dante's Peak, Part 2:
The trek to the summit: Some might say the event organizer, me, undersold the distance and elevation gain, and then there was the unexpected chill. But ralley they did, and we have the pix to prove it.
And of course, for those who stayed late, there were the clowns on stilts...And yes, they walked the 1500 vertical feet- 2+ miles round trip- in full regalia.
Step by step, from the lower field they came, 100 strong...
...full of good cheer, able in spirit, with the summit still 900 vertical feet above...
...at the half way point, historic Griffith Park Observatory was but speck below our intrepid crew...
..and after the crowd had summitted, the clowns came. Really...clowns.
