It was another gray chilly day in North Eastern PA, but a dedicated group of supporters, joined together at Nay Aug Park in Scranton, PA at 2:00 PM at the Main Pavilion. The group came to rally together and discussed the catastrophic effects of Global Warming. The point of the event was to urge congress to cut carbon dioxide 80% by the year 2050, as well as come up with ways to make out community better.
NEPA One Corps lead the way by organizating and setting up the even site. Banners and Posters were made by the 7 and 8 th grade Students of Riverside High School. Kevin Kays a Scranton High School teacher rode his bike to the event, and brought several of his students to the event as part of a class involvement project.
The highlight of the event was a program lead by Dan Schreffler, energy chair of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Group of the Sierra Club. He discussed energy solutions that can help address global warming, cut our dependence on oil, benefit public health, and save taxpayer dollars. He also show some simple technologies that are available to us to save on our energy bill and reduce greenhouse gas emissions including solar power, LED lighting, and hybrid automobiles.
Dan also had on display a working Solar Panel that was adding power to the Nay Aug Park Grid during the event.
The group of 25 participated in a very active hour long discussion about energy. Several ideas were tossed around, as to how this group could effect a bigger change in the city of Scranton, and Lackawanna County.
John Edwards pledge sheets were signed and, Edwards bumper stickers passed out .Several people in the the group made commitments to attend a "Cool City" Kick Off meeting at the University of Scranton on May 8th. NEPA One Corp members will attend.
The event was small in numbers but very successful in its commitment. Everyone left with a feeling that they participated in a event that was the beginning of something very special.
Several of the One Corp Group ",Pets for Positive Change" attended with their Pets.
Here are some Photos of the event
