First, the climate acted--it rained. But we were not rained out, we were rained in, moving inside the church.
Second between 80-100 people gathered. We welcomed everyone. Told about the Step It Up movement and what the rally was about. Sang Pete Steeger, This land is your land; introduced a City Council member, a city planning staff person who is the support for the City of Alameda's Climate Protection Task Force, a coordinator of another Alameda Action scheduled for this afternoon, and one of our planning team who distributed leaflets with addresses for our members of Congress with a sample communication. Each of these persons spoke briefly.
Third, we distributed quotes on global warming, each person reading theirs.
Fourth, we sang America The Beautiful.
Finally, we went out in the decreasing rain to take a picture with our banner.
A good time was had by all, and we went home ready to work at reducing global warming.

About 40 people attended the rally in Jackson Park, even on a gray afternoon after morning showers and then some rain during the rally. We also had about 40 people at the Teach-In at the Public Library. About 15 marched from the park to the library.
We hae five fine speakers at the rally and then five different speakers at the Teach-In. There were suggestions for several practical ways of getting involved-- co-sponsoring Sen. Barbarta Boxer's bill, drying clothes on the line, and coming to a City Task Force meeting as the city plans its next steps.
