We are the western suburbs of Chicago. Though we have no glaciers or warm seas we do have wonderful parks and forest preserves. Families, youth, environmental groups, church members and Moms & More (and even some four-legged friends) joined together for a fun waste-free picnic at Lake Ellyn Park in Glen Ellyn, IL. The possibility of cold, rain and even snow didn't deter our stalwart group who enjoyed a wonderful mid-day break in the clouds as the sun shined upon us and our banner. We "stepped up" on our banner by tracing our footprints & signing them. The kids ran around, played on the playground, watched fish and ducks in the lake and played with bubbles (and got dirty too!) We ate, laughed and talked with each other and listened to each other's stories and experiences. We are now beginning to join together in our greater community and will be starting a Yahoo Group to keep connected. This event truly lifted us up. We know that stewardship of our planet is the most vital concern facing us. We NOW know that there are others in our community who want to do more...to learn more, to share more and to act together.
