Over 100 people gathered at a local elementary school on their bikes. Children decorated their bikes as alternative energy sources (with solar panals, suns, drawings of corn, etc.) We then all biked to an amphitheater in downtown Frederick, along the canal, where we heard great music by local musician Kathleen and Brian. Charlie Garlow, an environmental lawyer and board member of Chesapeake Climate Action Network (and unicycle rider!), gave an entertaining and informative talk about global warming. Richard Griffin, representing the City of Frederick, read a proclamation of the city's support of our event. Then a local high school student, Hannah Poffenberger, gave "An Inconvenient Truth" slide show presentation at the library. We also had in attendance local environmentalist and children's book author Lynne Cherry. Our sponsors, BP Solar and local bike shop Wheel Base, had tables with information at the event. Everyone had a good time and pledged to continue to work together against global warming.
