The Lower Eastside Girls Club joined the Sea of People in Battery Park. Luna Bella, from our Junior Leadership staff was the speaker right after Bill McKibbin. She gave him one of our "Girls Gone Green" t-shirts. We hope he wears it. Later that day we met a Tsunami, a Polar Bear, and the Reverend Billy!!! They are in our photos. We will be editing a video piece about our day for MNN- Manhattan Neighborhood Network TV in the coming month.

An all age assembly, (poss. app. 300) dressed in aquatic colors, symbolizing rising sea levels, gathered on Saturday April, 14 by the water's edge in Battery Park, NYC. There was music and "rally cry". We then poured, sprayed and splashed far inland towards the projected point of a future shoreline. Playful sea creature costumes, bright colors in general gave energy levels a big boost. Environmentally, it was a festive air with an underlying cloud upsurge of deep concern. Seriously, folks. Locally, Lower Manhattan will be under water if we don't act. Treasured sea creatures will likewise suffer dislocation & habitat-challenge. Homelessness, presently a real crisis worldwide thanks to Resource Theft, subsequent Refugee Movements, etc. as well as an ethical index of where our bottom line is: do we include or trivialize? Sorry I digress, but now it seems, similar forces, short-term commercial interests have the power to affect a common base, our homeostatic land & sea, & that these forces can render Polar bears, as well as the affluent homeless. The unity issue is that we need to comprehend "interwoven existence", and "home" needs to be homaged. There were fliers about new Green Technologys, Respect of Others, Artistic License, and necessary "boundaries" on CO2 emissions. Cyclists flew alongside. Stay tuned. This is the watermark of our time.
