We gathered at the watefront park. Green Girl, super heroine and defender of the Earth, delivered a speech encouraging everyone to call on their inner hero to help save the world from global warming! She also read a letter from Representative Jay Inslee written specially for the event. Medals were handed out to the participants, with little mirrors in the middle, so that all attendants will remember that THEY are the heroes we need to combat climate change! Seattle artists Niceol Blue and Travis Hartnett played some excellent live music, and a small vegetarian potluck was shared. Kids drew pictures in answer to the question, "what do you want the world to be like in 2050?" and played other games for Earth-themed prizes. There seemed to be a lot of warmth and enthusiasm for the event...even when it started to pour, in true Northwest fashion. Spirits were high, and a few petitions even circled in anticipation of Earth Day. Local farmers contributed flowers, and the community really pitched in making the beautiful signs that decorated the stage and surrounding area. Bainbridge is ready to Step It Up!
