On this beautiful spring day, we met in Bear Mountain State Park for great music and jamming by loal musicians and speeches by environmentalists and local elected officials, including our Congressman, John Hall. Then we all marched through the Park and the Zoo to Bear Mountain Bridge where we stood with banners high! The photos in this post are all by Russell Cusick.
We gather for a group picture at Bear Mountain State Park, with the Bridge behind us, before marching to the Bridge.

Forever will April 14 2007 go down in history .. for us who chose to share the day on Bear Mountain .. the bond will go on .. the word needs to be put into action ..
it started out a cold beautiful blustery day.. spirits where high with the message that was on everyone?s mind .. Step it up, Congress! Cut Carbon 80% by 2050
Electricity for the band and PA system was provided by a solar panels ..
The speakers that came out gave us all much food for thought .. as well as .. ideas on how we as individuals can start the change ourselves ..
changing over regular light bulbs to energy smart bulbs .. making wiser choices of what we eat to what kind of car we drive ..
I was impressed by Congressman Hall when he spoke about how even the US Government would switch to solar power to provide electricity for Government buildings in Washington in the very near future..
The enthusiasm continued as we all march to the Bear Mountain Bridge . a flood of green shirts streamed across .. the view of the Hudson River along with the Bear Mountain & the wildlife were a clear reminder of what we are fighting for .. to keep places like this not becoming a distant memory ..
Travelers crossing the Bear Mountain Bridge, either honked in support, waved or simply gave us the thumbs up .. What a great day ..
Now its up to Congress to ?Step It Up?
it is TIME for ACTION not just simply words .. for action speaks louder than words ..
Continue the message .. we are only tenants here on Earth .. and we have not treated her well .. it is time for a change Now .. I feel that 2020 will be the turning point of things to come .. let us all make the dream of cutting Carbon 80% before 2050 a reality.
We must ALL fight, our voices and our action will speak volumes. Take action by writing our congress and take action by voting those in office who WILL not only promise but actually make a difference. Take action by each individual working to cut carbon wastefulness. We ALL must Step it UP

250 people came to the Bear Mountain Bridge in NY for the Hands Across the Hudson. We were at an Earth Day Hands Across the Hudson in 1990, back again 17 years later. Margaret and Connie are great organizers. The coalition of politicans, community groups, families and individuals was inspiring. Thanks for posting the picture of the music on the bridge. www.melandvinnie.blogspot.com

It was a great day at the Step It Up rally at Bear Mountain State Park, one of more than 1,300 organized around the US. I came to represent SPACE, The Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment. The Town of Stony Point hosts one of the dirtiest coal burning plants in the Hudson Valley, Mirant's Lovett Plant at Tomkins Cove.
I was pleased to have my wife Joanne and daughter, Allison with me for the day. It was inspiring for everyone ? great people, great energy and great weather too. Thank you to all who organized and participated!
