Last weekend students representing all the major colleges in the Portland, OR spent Saturday night in a cabin near Government Camp, reading old cabin logs and learning about the history of the place. The next morning we went to Timberline, the northernmost area on the mountain and year-round ski facility (you might recognize the lodge from exterior shots in The Shining).
We hiked around the ski boundary, filming scenic shots, interviews, a few snowball fights, and our rally against Global Warming. We found that our cardboard signs, with the message "Step It Up: Reduce Emissions 80% by 2050" were helpful for sliding down the mountain for those of us without the foresight to bring a snowboard, as a few of us did. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the conditions were perfect for filming. Before calling it a wrap, we used our bodies to spell out "SAVE ME" on the side of the mountain. This message comes both from us as students, and the glacier behind us in the shot, which like others on the mountain is rapidly receding.
We spent the past week in the editing room, pulling long hours cutting tape (or at least doing the digital equivalent) in preparation for today's release. On the national day of action, we joined our friends at the Face It rally in downtown Portland to celebrate, talk to people, and share our commitment to stopping climate change. We have big plans for our video, which include mailings to our representatives, but it was exciting to share our success with everyone at the rally.
Argg!! you tube is acting up! will tag with stepitup07 as soon as possible and re-send.

Last weekend students representing all the major colleges in the Portland, gathered on Mt. Hood to create a documentary about the loss of Mt. Hood's glaciers for Step it Up.
We spent Saturday night in a cabin near Government Camp, reading old cabin logs and learning about the history of the place. The next morning we went to Timberline Lodge, located just below Mt. Hood's glorious glaciers (you might recognize the lodge from exterior shots in The Shining).
