We had about 350 show up - cold day but no rain! It is hard to translate it well. Our speakers were our mayor, assemblywoman and a representative from our congressman's office, and several speakers from our community about the science, the forecast, the responsibility, about needing to consume less, need less, think more...... We had several tables including people trying to get others to give up flying unnecessarily, a campaign to stop using paper and plastic bags, a drive not to drive campaign, a sign-up sheet that people signed that we will send to our congressman that people had the option to put their email on if they wanted to be contacted about more events. Pretty much everyone put their email down. We had a wonderful paper mache globe and many great signs. We had an art table for children to draw on fabric squares about their vision for the world and then we hung them around the pavilion like prayer flags. There was a lot of activity at the tables! Even though we had hoped for a lot more people it was agood turn-out. The media has been inconsitant with coverage and we made a request yesterday to bug them to show up today and our main local paper that seemed previously uncommittal, showed up with a reporter and a photographer so we are hoping to make front page this Monday. As you can see, our group picture would look just great on a front page......We ended with us all singing "This Land Is Your Land".

We planted lettuce on a snowy day in Ithaca to show how, through an organic Community Supported Agriculture farm, you can produce great food locally, without the need of fuels for long-distance transportation or carbon-based fertilizers.

I'm adding the coverage in our local daily - section B top section. While I applaud their efforts it is so frustrating - they say "over 200" when I called to tell them it was 348 people who attended. The link below is to the internet story which has 3 more pictures then the one in the paper. The paper one has only the top picture and on the same page there is a picture of a cow 2 times larger......makes you wonder - we'll be writing them today.....
