It was pouring rain in Berkeley's home of free speech, People's Park, only 20 minutes before we were to begin, when the sun broke through. People started to appear, five, ten, then the Muslim Students Association of the West showed up 75 strong! We took our first series of photos, then the MSA's leader gave a beautiful speech connecting our daily actions and the duties of Muslim brother/sisterhood with our environment. "This is what America is all about," said Uncle Buzzy guitarist, Teddy Wee, "diverse groups coming together to save the environment!" Then we serenaded the MSA with our theme song- "A'mu Buzzy's Hometown Variety Show" as the MSA left to continue their charitable work.
People kept showing up, so we took some more photos and held an open forum discussion on what each of us were doing to reduce our ecological footprint. And then "Uncle Buzzy's Hometown Variety Show" (the organizer) entertained the folks with a frolicking skit and song that you can hear by going to KPFA.org Sunday Salon archives April 8th.
"Good times," said Dr. Pig. Uncle Buzzy concurred.
