Our event, "It's So Easy Being Green," was a Sustainability-themed festival at Arizona State University. The event was hosted by my student-formed, grassroots, environmental action organization: Students for Sensible, Sustainable Energy (SSSE), in conjunction with ASU's chapter of Students for Arizona PIRG. Our event lasted from 11 am to 4 pm, so while we were able to reach a lot of people, our primary group photo will not accurately reflect everyone who took part in the event, as they came and went as they pleased. We had different booths with various activities set up, including a table to write letters to your representatives, one on Sustainable Architecture, one on Environmental Justice Issues, a general Environmental/Climate Change informational table with details as to personal, political action, etc., as well as art projects from recycled materials for children, Sustainability-themed games with CFLs, etc. for prizes, a solar oven, baking vegan chocolate chip cookies, 2 live bands and a free lunch of black bean tortillas, chips, salsa and water. Speakers were state reps, Ed Ablesser & David Schapira, as well as Tempe City Council candidate Corey Woods. We were able to accomplish all of this, because of hard work from our groups' members, donations, volunteers, awesome attendees, and OF COURSE, the AMAZING Step it Up! staff, who have worked so very hard to provide us with amazing resources.
Not to boast, but I'm absolutely thrilled with the way our event panned out. Not everything was as we originally planned, but I couldn't have asked for a more successful event. We've drained our own bank accounts, been sleep deprived, paint-covered and on-edge for days now, frantically, trying to tie up any loose ends, but it was 100% worth it! And although, I'd do it over again in a heartbeat, it feels so great, right now, to be able to sit back, relax (at least, for a moment) and know we lived it well.

Thank you for this opportunity!

Thank you "It's So Easy Being Green" organizers for bringing together so many passionate, creative people to share their opinions and ideas. From solar cookies ... to Barack Obama ... to cardboard art, it was more than informative -- it was an experience.

Uncle Sam was there in spirit, but Barack Obama sent his "rack's". Arizonans for Obama gave away painted "rack's" (rocks) along with info on Barack's impressive eco-friendly record.

This artist showed us creative ways of turning cardboard into art with a purpose, like making painted pencil holders from toilet paper rolls.
