80 people from age 8 to 80 braved the rain to attend our rally at the busiest intersection in Emeryville -- a spot that will be under 5 feet of water without dramatic action. The large number of people enabled us to cover 3 corners. It was an amazing, completely grassroots effort -- complete with spontaneous cheers ("carbon, carbon everywhere; come on, Congress, don't you care?"). Our committee of 8 -- the Climate Action Ministry Team of the First Congregational Church of Berkeley -- were incredibly inspired to see so many unfamiliar faces show up. Folks heard about the event through the great press that Step It Up did, MoveOn, and KPFA live radio just that morning! The mayor of Emeryville, Nora Davis, showed up to cheer us on and tell us what her city is doing to reduce carbon. Everyone who came signed up to participate in the next Step It Up event. Onward!

We had two banners -- one explaining why we picked this location. "Do Nothing? Emeryville Under Water 2050!"

A great success! We also had a map showing areas of the Bay Area affected by sea level rise.
