Event Description:
Taking it the next step, the Olympia Climate Action and co-sponsors will host a second Step it Up event on November 3, 2007! Location: First Christian Church at 7th & Franklin St. SE in Olympia, on the SE corner from Sylvester Park. We want to build on the huge success of our first event. In taking it to the next step, we will further challenge our political leaders to step it up on Four Key Priorities: -- cut carbon 80% by 2050 -- cut greenhouse gas by 10% in 3 years -- no new coal-fired power plants; and -- establish a Green Job Corps. We want to seriously engage the public in this movement as "Community Democracy in Action" with particular focus on our youth--the next generation. To that end, we will partner with educators and schools on a Youth Program organized and presented by students. We also seek to build greater diversity to ensure that the concerns and voices of our very diverse communities are accurately represented. So, we will extend our reach beyond Olympia to encompass the greater regional area as we engage our leaders and citizens on the four key priorities to stop global warming-- utilizing the comprehensive science-based priorities necessary to overcome the crisis we face and realize the immense opportunities of our time. In addition to a schedule of expert speakers on global warming, our event will honor a local environmental leader, Billy Frank, Jr., and will feature a Youth Program, educational and informational booths of community efforts to address climate change, home energy and electric car displays, and dramatic puppetista art by the Backbone Organization.
