Event Description:
Our day will start at 11am with a march from the Mariposa County Court House to the Mariposa Art Park. We are honored to have the Spirit of John Muir with us on this special Saturday. He will be with us to answer any questions we have about the time before, during or after his days in Yosemite including his perspective on our contemporary climate change issues. Don, physicist and owner of Offline Solar will be providing all of our energy with his "Solar Wagon". Don has installed solar systems for many Mariposa residents. Many off whom are completely off the grid. The Trespassers, our local progressive bluegrass and gypsy-jazz string band, will be rockin' us on the Green once more- So bring your dancin' shoes! We hope to have a mini-farmers market provided by our local farmers as well as a mini-arts fair with local artists selling their crafts. Brenda Ostrom of Mt. Meadow Farms and Naked Catering will be vending a delicious California sourced meal. UC Merced's Professor Kueppers, PhD will be at our Climate Change Info booth sharing information about Climate Change and how we will be effected by Global Warming. A faculty member of the Sierra Nevada Research Institute, Professor Kueppers teaches courses in the Earth Systems Science We may also have a local Fire Science specialist who will tell us how will bw and already are being effected by climate change (if he is back from the Southern California Fires.) At the Meet your Community section of the day all the local orgs with booths at the event will come up and say a bit about their projects. Yosemite Employee Association: vending local wine Offline Solar: Save $ & Resources w/ Solar Panels Blue Oak Ayurveda: Holistic Health Care Practitioners Providing their free hot tea Balanced Rock: Wilderness Adventures Chrysalis Institute: Working for a Sustainable Community- Papercrete Demonstration American Vegetable Oil Recyclers: Check out electric & recycled veggie oil vehicles & learn how to convert your diesel! Woodland Elementary 6th Graders will be conducting our recycling program for the day.
