Event Description:
STEP IT UP! National Day of Climate Action Saturday, November 3rd The UW Needs to Clean Up Its Act No More Dirty Coal! No More Toxic Runoff! Rally and Picket 12:00 Noon UW Charter Street Coal Plant 117 N. Charter Street The UW's Charter Street Dirty Coal plant is a danger and an embarrassment to the University and the entire community. This antiquated Dirty Coal plant not only spews toxic pollution and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere but poisonous runoff from its open coal pile also pollutes local waters. A diverse collection of groups including the Madison Environmental Justice Organization, Sierra Club, Midwest Environmental Advocates and others are already demanding the UW and State act to fix the mess. This action is an opportunity for the entire community to get out in the streets and add to the pressure on the UW to clean up its act now. For more detailed background information on the problems with the UW's Charter Street Dirty Coal plant, check out the articles at the links below: Charter Street Plant a state-owned health hazard.
