Event Description:
Here in Dutchess County, NY, we've taken the ONE SKY INITIATIVE and fleshed it out, contextualizing it for our specific location. See the attached PDF. We are currently contacting leaders in Dutchess County from churches, businesses, nonprofits, educational and research institutions, and other organizations, asking them to endorse this document. We plan to have a long list including a diverse array of support for the ONE SKY INITIATIVE within the next couple of weeks. Once we have a substantial list of supporters, we will contact all candidates running for office in Dutchess County, at all levels of office. We will show them the substantial and diverse list of constituents who support the initiative, and invite the candidates (and incumbents) to commit to ONE SKY if elected. On November third, our "event" will (hopefully) be a column in the Poughkeepsie Journal (and other papers if possible) detailing what the ONE SKY INITIATIVE is, why it matters, which area leaders/organizations have endorsed it, and what candidates have committed to its goals. Following elections in November we will have an informal event to gather together all of the area leaders and elected officials to share and brainstorm implementation strategies.
