Vermont Academy Students: Leaders of the Future
Saxtons River, VT
November 3, 2007 11:30AM to 12:00PM
Event Description:
Vermont Academy students, staff, and faculty will join on the VA Seal for a picture to support Global Climate Change action by our legislators. We were part of the "Save Your Vermont" event last year. Vermont Academy has graduated many important leaders, and our current students are the leaders of the future. To lead up to November 3, the Sustainability Committee, which is currently comprised of 15 students and 2 faculty members, organized a S.W.E.E.T. blackout event (SWEET stands for Students Working on Energy Efficiency Today). On November 1st committee members challenged students and faculty to turn off lights, unplug things, take shorter showers, wash laundry in cold water, etc. to conserve energy. Classrooms, offices, and the dining hall were sunlit only, hallways were dark, and our formal meal was candlelit. Students joined together in common rooms during study hall, so they could use fewer lights. The Sustainability gave a presentation at an all-school meeting on the importance of energy conservation and how it affects climate change. They've invited students who want to be leaders for the future to join in our picture on November 3rd.
