One of our organizers works for the Mass. Emergency Management Agency -- we knew the weather would not be good when she couldn't make it because she needed to be "in the bunker" for the day.
But despite the threat of high winds and rain, a hardy crew of about 40 people came to Grace Congregational Church, UCC, in Framingham to show their support of Step It Up. The Great Green Ambulance was our big feature in the parking lot. Thanks to Dawn Harkness and Wes Ritchie for bringing this eye-catching "grease" vehicle out in the bad weather, and having the good sense to bring a tent, too!
Inside, the kids had a fabulous time making recycled "inventions" in our craft room, and parents, grandparents, and friends, shared information on "grease" cars, recycling, community-supported agriculture, and global warming action. Warm cider and coffee kept us going for the morning, and kids in costumes with fresh face paint made everyone smile. Finally, two eighth-graders in matching "robot" outfits won the "recycled costume contest" and made their teacher's day!
We sent our "Framingham for 1 Sky" sign on to the Revolutionary Energy Rally in Concord with the Great Green Ambulance. We hope the weather didn't dampen spirits too much there. A lot of work went into our small gathering and we hope the foundation of connections we've made will keep building out to surrounding communities. Thank you to Grace Church for providing the warm place and the friendly spirit for our gathering, and good luck, Concord!

We heard later that the "Great Green Ambulance" made it to Concord for the Revolutionary Energy Rally. Thank you to Wes and Dawn for representing Framingham even in terrible weather!
