We had a great & successful day here at Stone Barns. 60 people attended our event which kicked off with a lecture by Fred Kirschenmann (Distinguished Fellow at the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State). We discussed global warming, peak oil & alternative energy as they relate to the food system, agriculture and our everyday lives. After that, we welcomed Ken Kleinpeter of Glynwood Center, Mike Biltonen of Stone Ridge Orchard, Jack Algiere & Julie Engel of Stone Barns Center and Dan Barber of Blue Hill & Blue Hill at Stone Barns for a panel discussion about how farmers in our region are adapting, adjusting & reacting to climactic changes. After that, we took our group photo with green thumbs (since we're farmers!) and then headed out on the farm for a tour of our fields and pastures with an eye towards adaptation and global warming. It was a great day!
