Western Michigan University students and others met on campus and marched to downtown Kalamazoo's Bronson Park, where we joined with steelworkers from the BlueGreen Alliance, members of WMU's football team and local citizens. We were addressed by Michigan state Rep. Robert Jones, who spoke about the renewable energy portfolio standard bill he has recently introduced in the Michigan House, by Prof. John Patten of WMU's College of Engineering, who was behind the recent installation of WMU's first wind turbine, and by Kalamazoo City Commissioner Don Cooney, long-time social justice advocate, who spoke on the connection between jobs and the environment. A beautiful Michigan fall day was enjoyed by all!
