Sierra Club organized the event at a church in DeWitt, a suburb of Syracuse. We gathered to listed to short enthusiastic talks from members of the religious, political, environmental, governmental and business communities. The talks were interspersed with drawings for door-prizes courtesy of 2 clowns. The "fee" for participating in the drawing was to write your name and a pledge to do something specific for the environment on your entry card. The winners' names and pledges were read aloud. All the prizes were "green." Then we all climbed on stage and each one held up a letter to spell out "Step It Up... etc" to show that it takes cooperation with others to achieve the goal.

We had several speakers, two clowns entertained, and people wrote down eco-pledges to reduce their impact. People wrote down their pledges and put them into a hat to win prizes.
